Chill out and unwind in our two bedroom self catering holiday home. Nestling below Maesbury Ring, an Iron Age Hill Fort and Mendip Golf Course you will find The Old Milking Parlour, a converted building which is surrounded by peaceful open countryside with great views over the Mendips.

Maesbury is a small hamlet located just 5 miles from the centre of Wells (England's smallest city). You will find this peaceful location an ideal place for relaxing or for touring the West Country, including Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar, Bath and the Coast. The property being surrounded by hills and footpaths makes it ideally suited for walkers or for those just wanting a rural break.

Accommodation  
  • The Master bedroom has a king size bed, dressing table, wardrobe, hairdryer with ensuite wet room with toilet.
  • The small twin bedroom has two single beds with wardrobe and is ideal for those little lodgers.
  • Both rooms have TV's and clock radios.
  • The bathroom has a bath with an electric shower, basin, toilet and heated towel rail.
  • The kitchen is fully equipped with a full size oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer.

Rural but not remote
Despite being surrounded by spectacular open countryside there are ample facilities conveniently close by. There are two delightful country pubs within five minutes' drive. The bustling city of Wells is just ten minutes by car with a great selection of pubs, restaurants, take-aways and supermarkets, as well as the magnificent Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and markets on the Wednesday and Saturday.

A boredom-free zone  
  • Maesbury Castle, an Iron Age hill fort, is just on the brow of the hill behind us and there's wonderful walking. A footpath leads straight from the front door of the property to nearby Shepton Mallet and you have the whole of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels to explore.
  • It's also at the heart some great cycling and caving country. The area boasts a number of very popular routes for those on two wheels and there's a great selection of potholes to explore from Swildon's Hole to Goatchurch Cavern.
  • There's plenty of local attractions for kids with Longleat Safari Park, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Caves, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton and Haynes Motor Museum.
  • In terms of heritage and culture you are spoilt for choice with Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Abbey and Tor, as well as a host of popular National Trust properties in the vicinity. We're also surrounded by nature reserves teeming of wildlife and birds.
  • The Jurassic Coast and the World Heritage City of Bath are easy day trips.
  • For foodies there's temptation galore with artisan cheese makers, quaint cider farms, craft breweries and award-winning chefs in abundance.
  • We even have some pretty big local festivals - not just a music one but also a couple of big agricultural shows.

  • The Old Milking Parlour has been carefully converted to retain its original character (but without the cows!) whilst offering everything you could wish for in the way of comfort.
  • You step through the stable door into the hallway, from which you can access the rest of the property - two bedrooms (one with en-suite wet room), a bathroom, and an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area. There's full central heating throughout. Hopefully these pictures will help give you an idea of the high standards of the decor and facilities.

Full Cream Bedroom
The master bedroom, featuring a king size bed, with overhead lighting and bedside lighting, bedside tables, wardrobe, dressing table, TV and clock radio. This room also has patio doors which open up onto a small patio area with patio furniture.

Wet Room
The Full Cream en-suite wet room includes a toilet, basin and heated towel rail. Fully tiled.

Kitchen
Fully equipped with a full size oven, microwave, fridge and small freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. A wooden table with four chairs is suitable for dining.

Lounge
Features a corner sofa, digital television with DVD player, DAB radio, BOSE Bluetooth sound system and a wood burner for those cosy winter nights when you just want to snuggle up. There is also a range of books and games for your enjoyment, and of course stunning views over the Mendip Hills.

The patio doors from the lounge open up onto your own garden/patio area for that leisurely breakfast, relaxing cuppa or time out with a good book. There's also the lower patio area with water feature, and gas barbecue which offers a relaxed setting for those warm summer evenings.

Bathroom
Right next to the Semi Skimmed Bedroom, it includes a bath with an electric shower, basin, toilet and heated towel rail.

Semi Skimmed Bedroom
This cosy twin bedroom has two single beds, with overhead lighting, a bedside table, wardrobe, dressing table and clock radio. There are two Velux windows with blackout blinds for those who like a good lie-in! This room is perfectly for little lodgers or a couple of friends.

Outside The Milking Parlour
There's a family area that includes The Herdsman's Hut. This can be used for storing two adult's bikes and possibly two kid's bikes. Alternatively walkers may dry or store their boots and clothes in the hut, which has lighting and electric heating. The hut is dry and secure with a combination code access. Also in the family area there is a bench and table where you can relax, as well as a mini Tractor Ted and a sandpit for the little ones.

Your Surroundings
If you like the idea of getting back to nature then we have plenty to choose from - including deer, foxes, owls and the occasional badger! You are surrounded by open fields on the gently sloping south facing escarpment of the Mendip Hills, and yet you are only a few minutes' drive from some lovely pubs and picturesque Wells, the smallest cathedral city in England.
