23rd- 28th April Skirrid Cottage: Arrived in twilight - but managed a walk among the bluebells - the birdsong is just lovely - the dawn chorus is especially beautiful and woke me on the next morning.
Walks on Mon included a stroll along the Wye while visiting M's mum in her nursing home and a good stretch on the lower slopes of Sugar Loaf in the afternoon - where we heard the first cuckoos of the year.
Tuesday set of reasonably early - blue skies - temp 3.5! Went via Llanthony and Capel-y-ffin to Lord Hereford's Twmpa and had a fabulous walk along the tops - great views - biting wind - ice on the one and only pond we passed. Dropped down into Hay for a cuppa and the on to Michaelchurch en route stopped for picnic lunch in the car - midst hailstorm!
Explored the Olchon valley after reading Owen Shear's 'Resistance' will go back and explore more - dropped in on fried in Ewyas Harold for tea.
Bright blue skies again on Wed - climbed Table Mountain near Crickhowell - up through fields & back via parts of the Beacon Way - meadows and woodland full of bluebells at lunchtime - carpets of them on Llanbedr Road out of Crickhowell. Lovely walk along the river at Llangenny. Again cold all day - but clear blue skies - just lovely. Recommend malteser cake at 'Book-ish' in Crickhowell!
Climbed Gaer today - cheated by driving up to the top car park - marked in Black Mountain walk book - views are superb & also rewarded with buzzards & a fox trotting up towards us!

18th - 21st November Skirrid Cottage: Hi Belinda and Roy. Firstly a very big thank you for your generosity & kind thoughts and the cake was lovely!
We have now seen and experienced the cottage being transformed to what I can only describe as very comfortable, practical and still that element of feeling of home "well done Roy!"
We came very late Friday evening and Saturday we did Sugar Loaf mountain and had a trip into Abergavenny. The mountain is relatively easy with beautiful scenery and is a must if you like walking.
Had a lovely meal at the Skirrid Inn where we always go when we stay here, lovely people with a big open fire.
On Sunday we did a lovely waterfall walk, easy to get to the start at Talgarth near the centre.
We had a really nice Indian at the Cinnamon Tree in Abergavenny on Sunday evening.
We now leave again with a heavy heart & I can't wait to return to what I can only describe as our pretend second home. Lots of love K & W xxx

Everything you can think of was here in the cottage, very thoughtfully equipped and very comfortable. It was lovely to arrive to a freshly baked cake and eggs from the hens. Belinda and Roy thank you so much for taking so much trouble and being so friendly. Had a wonderful stay, very relaxing except for the cycling! A beautiful place with so much to explore on the doorstep, something for everyone. Thank you so much S

23rd - 25th September Skirrid Cottage: Thank you again for another lovely relaxing weekend. The cottage is really home from home for us all now. The dogs know their way around your land better than I do.
Total relaxation, lovely cake, flowers & eggs. Already looking forward to our next visit in December.

15th - 22nd September Skirrid Cottage: Thank you Belinda and Roy for making us so welcome with flowers, eggs and walnut cake. We found Skirrid Cottage very comfortable and soon made ourselves at home. It was great to play Tai Chi on the grass in the sunshine. We soon made friends with your dog but we didn't think the geese wanted to be friends with us. We found enough places of interest to visit and took a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway. We enjoyed Sunday roast beef at Skirrid Inn. Everyone we met was very ready to help us.
Our week passed all too quickly. We will recommend your cottage to friends. Thank you again and best wishes for the future. T,N & J

5th - 15th September Skirrid Cottage: Last day of our hols, had a fantastic time, spent most of our 10 days walking from the lovely walk directly behind our cottage to attempting Sugar Loaf, I say attempting because we climbed the wrong one (I blame the missus) seriously though we will definitely be back the scenery around here is fantastic, the Skirrid Arms Pub (left out of gate, up to junction, turn tight, end of road just on your right) about 2 mile, food good but suggest you book. Roy and B very good hosts, very approachable, just lovely people, we never eaten so many eggs they keep supplying us with. Today (our last day) we are going to Berrington Hall (National Trust) near Hereford approx 45 mins drive. Also not to mention a great walk around the canal, you can walk for miles (on the flat) it is free parking to pick it up at Llanfoist car park near garden centre about 15 min drive from here.
We have had one of the best holidays ever! Thank you B & Roy! The cottage is so lovely , cosy, comfy sofas , comfy bed & everything you need. Have loved every moment. We have never eaten so many eggs in one week, delicious, and the cake... we made it last the whole stay. Thank you so much for your hospitality, we'll be back! S&G

31st July - 3rd August Skirrid Cottage: Thanks so much Belinda & Roy!
Skirrid Cottage has been such a joy to stay in. We had loads of fun trekking through the hills and along the canal (definitely recommend this). Unfortunately did not get a chance to go to the Skirrid Inn Pub, most haunted pub in Wales but it gives an excuse to come back. Thank you for being so accommodating and we hope to see you sometime in the near future. All the best, J,L,J & R

28th - 31st July Gaer Cottage: It has been wonderful staying here. The beds were comfy and we had all we needed. It was wonderful playing with the dogs and helping to feed the chickens and geese. Thank you for the wonderful supply of eggs. Yours sincerely N, C, B & R Bye!

15th - 22nd July Skirrid Cottage: We have been coming to these cottages for the lat 6 years. This is my 5th time. I never go away thinking that this will be the last time, I leave thinking I hope I can come back soon!
This is the first time since Belinda & Roy have taken over. I don't know how they did it but they managed to improve on something that was already perfect. My six year old son just entered the room and he said 'it is super nice here. I wish we could stay here' so there you go, no further endorsement necessary!
Incidentally he walked all the way to the top of the Sugar Loaf with me on Wednesday - an extremely nice walk. My daughter (8) and I walked across Bryn Arw on Monday - you can pick up the path by crossing the road and going through the gate opposite. There is a nice pub in Pantygelli (the Crown) at the end of the walk but it is closed Mondays (as is the pub at Llanthony Priory which is an amazing place to see). The first walk we made was up Gaer behind the cottages. Nicely covered by trees at the bottom and in fact for most of the walk, great views at the top. Walk past the chickens and there is a path that leads to another pub less than 1km from here.
Want a day at the beach? Drive 1 hour to Barry Island, pass the main beach and you will find smaller less crowded ones. Whitecastle, Skenfrith and Grosmont all good free castles to visit. Grosmont as great views an interesting church and gues waht? a good pub the Angel. Butty Bach is the best beer. The church at Cwmyoy near here (you can even walk to it from here) is amazing; the most crooked building I have ever seen. I have run out of time... Enjoy your stay! T, E & L

6th - 13th July Skirrid Cottage: Our family is on a one year adventure around Europe & this is by far the absolute best place we have stayed! Thank you for EVERYTHING Belinda and Roy! We couldn't have asked for a better stay :) All the best to you both. J, J C, & D

25th June - 2nd July Skirrid Cottage: This is our 2nd visit to Skirrid Cottage and its great to see it after the refurb it looks great! Amazing cake & eggs as always. We were able to explore a lot more of the local area this time - including a couple of stomps up Sugar Loaf, Bryn Arw, Skirrid Fawr; Chris would highly recommend Black Mountain Cycle Centre nearby for some decent downhill mountain biking; and had a lovely meal at the Skirrid Inn. We will be back for a 3rd visit soon! Thank you for a wonderful stay. L, C. B & K

We made ourselves at home along with our 2 dogs and had everything we possibly needed for our stay here, as well as having the bonus of a cake made by Belinda (or Roy) and gresh goose and chicken eggs which tasted amazing. The weather was great 20C each day, except one afternoon when we were nearly at the summit of Sugar Loaf and a thunder storm caught us unaware so had to run back down. The walks on their land are equally amazing and I would highly recommend walking up to the hill fort, great views all around. Pen y Fan is also a must when in the Brecon Beacons. All in all er had a fantastic stay. with great hosts in a spectacular area and we will hopefully be back again. Thanks again J,R & S

2nd - 5th June Skirrid Cottage: Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Your cottage is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect base for A and I to go out exploring Wales on our bikes. Would definitely recommend Skirrid Cottage to friends and will be back again soon. Thank you again L & A

29th May - 2nd June Skirrid Cottage: What a welcome - delicious cake and flowers and eggs! Heavenly setting, so tranquil and beautiful. We were so comfortable in our beds and the kitchen was really great overlooking the bird table with the family of voles in the rocks too - delightful. We heard the cuckoo at least 4 times a day. We made a recording of the dawn chorus at 4am too! (This place should be featured in Springwatch :)).

The dogs are so sweet and we are already planning our next visit. Actually we don't want to leave. Our son really loved feeding the chooks grapes and seeing the geese up close - so funny! I could write pages more about our walks and the fabulous land surrounding the cottage...
Thank you Belinda and Roy for being great hosts, We will return with our own dog next year. D, M & L x
