The Gardener's Cottage, which sleeps up to four people, is located on the South Chesthill Estate. This attractive holiday cottage dates back to the 1800s and is located with wonderful views of Glen Lyon, one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland. The area around the cottage is particularly enchanting, including dramatic hills, open fields, mature trees and the River Lyon.

Accommodation
  • The cottage has two comfortable bedrooms, a double (with ensuite shower room) and a twin, bathroom, living room, kitchen and wonderful views of the glen.
  • It is both a perfect base from which to enjoy the surrounding countryside, and somewhere to enjoy a little quiet time away from the hectic hustle and bustle of life. Well-behaved pets are welcome.
  • The cottage is let on a fully furnished basis including all linen and towels and a well equipped kitchen.
  • A phone, wifi, and Sky television are all provided along with a DVD collection and board games, perfect entertainment for rainy day!
  • Central heating, hot water and electricity all included (there is also a log burner in the living room - logs are provided).
  • Washing machine and washing line are provided.
  • The cottage has a private garden with furniture and a barbecue provided (you will need to provide your own charcoal).
  • Lots of parking space is available, and a shed perfect for bicycle storage.

 Walking & picnicing
  • A picnic site and table is provided next to one of the prettiest pools on the river.
  • Gardener's Cottage is an ideal base for those keen on hill walking, with a number of Munros within easy reach, including Ben Lawers, a National Nature Reserve due to its rare flowers.
  • Nature walks are a new option available all year excluding September and October. Tenants will be escorted by Hamish (the South Chesthill Estate Keeper), with whom they will discuss what they most want to see, and construct the day accordingly. Species to see could include Red Deer (option to 'stalk' deer to get as close as possible for a photo), Ptarmigan (fitness required to climb to top of hill!), Black cock, Grouse, Golden Eagles; Buzzards; Osprey (on river); Otters (on river), Golden Plover; Snipe (if wet).  Binoculars recommended. Dogs will need to be kept on a lead. Argocat included (subject to availability). Whole day £125; half day £80; unlimited people (although max 6 in Argocat). Subject to Hamish being available.
  • Visits to the Hill Loch are available from April - August, this is a wonderful day out on a calm, dry day. Tenants can walk up in about 2 hours, or Hamish will drive them most of the way and take a picnic to the loch-side in the Argocat. Once there, the views are stunning and the loch is well stocked with brown trout which can be fished from the bank or the rowing boat. Whole day £160 including trout permits, Argocat; rowing boat; unlimited people (although max 6 in Argocat). Subject to Hamish being available.
 Fishing
  • The estate enjoys over 4.5 miles of single and double bank fishing and 32 pools on the river Lyon. We have caught an average of 89 salmon per year over the last three years. If this is of interest, please enquire for prices and availability, as it should be organised in advance where possible.
  • The catch is well spread over the spring, summer, and autumn, from March through to October, with salmon caught weighing up to mid 20lbs.4.
  • The Lyon has a long salmon season, from April to the end of the season on 15th October. The river has both a spring run and an autumn run of salmon, with grilse in the summer months. In addition there is excellent brown trout fishing on the river.
 Stalking
  • Deer stalking is an essential part of managing the environment. Red deer stalking is available between 1st September and 15th February, and Roe deer stalking between 1st April and 31st March. We can provide a stalker, rifle and ammunition. Per stag £375 + VAT; hind stalking per rifle per day £170 + VAT. Subject to availability and should be arranged in advance.
Additional Activities
  • For golfers, there are nine hole golf courses at Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Strathtay and Killin, and an attractive 18 hole course at Taymouth Castle.
  • Water sports are available on Loch Tay.
  • Pony trekking is available locally.
  • There are many places of historic interest and gardens within easy reach, including the Fortingall Yew, reputed to be the oldest living thing in Europe!
