Here at The Mill in Abercych we have two well-appointed holiday cottages located in this beautiful Pembrokeshire valley. At present, we're pleased to say, there is no mobile phone reception here in the valley - so no intrusive phone calls. There are 14 acres to lose yourselves in; you can sit in the gardens or down on the banks of the Afon Cych and unwind.

By day you can marvel at the variety of wildlife, the peace and quiet and the fresh air; by night you can listen to the sound of owls. But be prepared - it gets very dark, and very quiet.

Y Ffwrn, the larger of our two cottages, is Welsh for 'The Forge', but we are still puzzled why a building that was clearly a working corn mill is called The Forge. There was certainly a forge in this part of the village, but our buildings, which date back at least 300 years, were used for milling corn and also as a factory for wood turning. We think that the forge itself was about 50 yards away on the main village road. Some years ago Y Ffwrn was lying derelict and in danger of collapse; fortunately it was repaired (though stripped of virtually all its mechanical gear - much of which went to the mill at St Dogmaels) and converted into a self-contained cottage. The water wheel was left - part of this can be seen at one end of the building - and one of the grinding wheels has been incorporated into the patio area.
  • Y Ffwrn will sleep up to six people in three bedrooms and we can supply a cot if required.
  • It has full gas central heating, and walls that are two feet thick, so even out of season it's a lovely, warm, cosy getaway.
  • You enter the building through the modern kitchen. There you'll find a full-sized electric cooker, microwave, toaster and dishwasher, washing machine, and pots, pans, cutlery and crockery for your stay.
  • The lounge / dining area is spacious, with patio doors leading out to the garden. There is a decorative slate fireplace with coal effect electric stove, satellite tv, DVD / cd player, sofas, dining table and chairs.
  • Also downstairs is a further bedroom with bunk beds, together with en-suite wc and basin.
  • Upstairs is a bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with corner bath, large separate shower, wc and basin, and a further double bedroom which has a large feature window overlooking the gardens and valley.
