The pretty little village of Tolpuddle, some six miles east of Dorchester sits in the Piddle Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and this delightful detached cottage forms part of an historic village amongst picturesque thatched cottages. Tolpuddle is famous for The Martyrs, six farm labourers arrested in 1834 for trade union activity and sentenced to transportation to Australia. Thousands of people protested and, after three years, the men returned to England with free pardons and were treated as heroes.
