Worthing Mill, superbly situated on the River Blackwater, is an historic listed building with its original mill wheel and workings and has been lovingly restored to provide an idyllic holiday retreat for the discerning visitor.
Mention is made in the Domesday Book of a mill at Worthing and until Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries the great stone wheels ground corn for the monks at Castle Acre Priory (now an ancient monument). The present, striking white-washed building is mainly Georgian but some parts date back to Tudor times. Original features include the wooden crown wheel and stones which are a natural part of the reception room.
Accommodation Furnished and carpeted to an exceptionally high standard the three bedroom, two bathroom accommodation has exposed beams throughout, a galleried landing, large fully-equipped kitchen and a solarium. Upstream and downstream there are beautiful views over and along the River Blackwater, a tributary of the Wensum which flows through Norwich. Bird watching and fishing are peaceful pursuits to be enjoyed in this tranquil location: Kingfishers nest in the riverbank close to the Mill. The Mill's own car-park fronts the Mill garden and there is a riverside barbecue and picnic area provided by the owners who live in a totally separate part of the Mill and who have long family connections with Norfolk. The Mill pool teems with coarse fish and a rowing boat is available to explore the placid upstream waters. Location - Worthing itself is an unspoilt mid-Norfolk hamlet set in countryside traced by narrow leafy lanes. Village shops, Post Office and Pubs serving good food are within a two mile radius.
- For the gourmets many excellent restaurants and, for the sports minded golf, tennis and horse riding are all within easy reach and so, too, historic centres such as Norwich, Kings Lynn and Dereham each with excellent shopping facilities.
The area, so steeped in history, has innumerably fine churches, Royal Sandringham and other stately homes and places of historical interest. - North Norfolk beaches are a bird-watcher's joy and there are several wildlife reserves in the area.
- Fascinating market towns such as Reepham, Aylsham, Holt, Swaffham and Fakenham are at most 30 minutes' drive and the famous Norfolk Broads within 45 minutes' drive through pleasant countryside.
