Achnahanat Cottage is detached, private and situated in lovely mature grounds on the 'Road to the Isles' 3 miles from Arisaig in one of the most scenic places on the West Coast of Scotland. There is so much to see and do in this area it is hard to know where to start to describe this beautiful place. Briefly, it is close to Glenfinnan, Arisaig, Mallaig and the gleaming Morar sands at Loch Morar, where 'Morag', perhaps a relative of 'Nessie', lurks in its depth.

Location

  • Arisaig village 3 miles, is considered to be the Gateway to the Small Isles Passenger boats sail from Arisaig most weekdays during the summer to any one of the four small islands of Rhum, Eigg, Muck or Canna.
  • Mallaig 10 miles. This is the largest fishing port on the west coast of Scotland, only 12 miles from the cottage and a working port full of fishing boats of every shape and size. The tightly knit community of fisher folk, who dedicate their lives to harvesting the bounty from the sea, also provide the crew for the town's famous Lifeboat. Mallaig is renowned for the plentiful landings of prime fish, much of which finds its way to European tables, as well as its superlative kippers.
  • Glenfinnan 12 miles The world-renowned story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's fight for the British throne gathered momentum at Glenfinnan where he raised the Jacobite standard and rallied his clansmen for battle. At Glenfinnan you can see the viaduct made famous through the filming of Harry Potter. In the summer months, the Jacobite steam engine runs from here to Fort William and Mallaig now considered to be among the finest railway journeys in the world.
  • Morar sands, A favourite place for holiday makers at the cottage, allows fine views of Eigg and Rhum. Halfway between Arisaig and Mallaig, stop and admire the beautiful Morar estuary, a huge expanse of gleaming sand at low tide and a beach walker's ideal. Loch Morar, over 1000 feet deep, is one of Scotland's deepest and provides a lovely walk along its northern shores with vast vistas of loch and mountain scenery. Legend has it that 'Morag', perhaps a relative of 'Nessie', lurks in its depths.
