 Thank you for your interest in Wharton Cottage. The cottage is four star rated and sleeps 7. It has a lovely whitewashed appearance and is a linked detached traditional cottage. It also has the following features:  
  • 3 double bedrooms, one is particularly large and includes a single bed also.
  • A cot is also available and highchair.
  • There is a bathroom and a shower room.
  • Central heating.
  • There is a spacious living room with a traditional coal effect stove.
  • A dining room with a rayburn stove and a kitchen adjacent.
  • There is a washing machine and dishwasher.
  • There is a courtyard with garden furniture ideal for that early evening glass of wine.
  • We offer free access for our guests to the leisure facilities at Netherwood Hotel in Grange over Sands.

 Location  
  • It is situated in Cartmel - a historic village set in beautiful countryside and within easy travelling distance of Kendal, Lake Windermere and Grange-over-Sands.
  • Cartmel is home to the Cartmel Races, the Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop (also an excellent delicatessen) and a medieval priory which holds musical/choral events most weekends.
  • There are 4 pubs within 200 yards (three serve food), a Michelin starred restaurant, "L'Enclume", and a new wine bar, "Rogan's".
  • Holker Hall is nearby and Fell Foot Park on the shores of Windermere.
  • The cottage is also ideal for visiting the Beatrix Potter sites.
  • There are walks straight from the door and the surrounding countryside is ideal for cyclists of all ages and abilities.
  • There is also a children's playground, several high quality gift shops and antiques shops.
  • Cartmel Races take place in May and August and there are other horse shows throughout the year.
  • There is a regular antiques fair at the Village Hall which also doubles as a theatre from time to time.
  • If you have time to venture out of Cartmel we recommend the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbott Art Gallery in Kendal and for the children in particular the Duck Pond at Grange has an amazing collection of exotic ducks, and the steam train at Haverthwaite is a perennial favourite.
