West Hury Farm, once a substantial farmhouse, is set in an elevated position high in the North Pennines, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has been transformed into a tasteful development of four cottages amidst the magnificent scenery of Baldersdale, made famous by Hannah Hauxwell.
  • The cottages face south overlooking the peaceful expanse of Hury Reservoir, a short walk away, and the fields and fells beyond.
  • This is an ideal location for a holiday in the dramatic surroundings of the Pennine Hills, perfect for walking (the Pennine Way, Tees Walk and Tees Valley Railway Walk are all close by), bird-watching, fishing on Hury and other reservoirs nearby, or on the Tees (permits required).
  • Pony trekking is also available locally.

The Facilities

  • The cottages are comfortably furnished with real log fires, double glazing and electric night-store heaters for year round warmth.
  • Kitchens are very well equipped, including an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee maker and dishwasher.
  • Colour TV and a radio are provided.
  • Beds are made up prior to your arrival, with all linen and towels provided.
  • Many of the original features of the buildings have been retained and the furnishings reflect the atmosphere of their surroundings.
  • A complimentary welcome tea tray is provided on arrival.
  • A complimentary basket of logs and coals is provided on arrival, additional logs and coal are available to purchase on request.
  • Well behaved pets are welcome; please advise on booking.

Location
The area is a motorists' paradise with good, almost traffic-free, roads and lanes taking you over hill and dale to high fells and splendid views, or pretty villages with plenty of free parking. The Lake District, North Yorkshire Dales and Moors, or even Hadrian's Wall, are within easy reach. Historic Durham with its lovely Cathedral and Barnard Castle with its castle remains and famous Bowes Museum, are also a must. For the shoppaholic: the Metro Centre is in reach, as are shopping centres in Darlington, Kendal, etc. Beamish open-air museum, the lead mine at Killhope and Lightwater Valley are all fascinating and adventurous, a great day out for children.
The villages of Romaldkirk, Cotherstone, Egglestone and Middleton-in-Teesdale all boast friendly pubs where anything from a tasty and filling bar meal to a full silver-service dinner can be enjoyed at very reasonable prices, all of course washed down with a fine choice of wines and real ales.
