In 1997 a local stonemason used the stone from a disused 19th century stable to create this beautiful, new, single storey holiday home, offering 'old world' charm with a modern 'Scandinavian' interior.

Wakedon Cottage was built in a wooded corner of Avista's grounds which sit high on Crich hill overlooking the Derwent Valley. The cottage lies about half a mile from the picturesque villages of Crich, Whatstandwell and Fritchley, whilst the historic towns of Matlock, Belper, Cromford and Wirksworth are situated in the Derwent Valley below.

Open countryside surrounds the grounds of Avista and country walks lie in all directions. The attractions of Chatsworth House, Alton Towers, National Tramway Museum, Carsington Water, and the Peak District are all within an easy drive.

Accommodation:
The cottage includes Linen, Towels and Heating, as well as:
  • A fully equipped Kitchen/Breakfast/Laundry room including dishwasher
  • A truly spacious Lounge/Diner
  • A bedroom with Kingsize bed and large en-suite bath/shower room
  • A bedroom with Twin beds and en-suite 'European-style' shower room
  • Private garden
Please note the accommodation is not suited to children, pets or smokers.

Location:
From Crich head towards Whatstandwell and after half a mile enter the tree-lined drive of Avista (also marked Penrose), pass the flower meadow on your left and just before you get to Avista's Penrose Cottage take the left turn through the meadow (park here to collect the keys from Penrose Cottage), pass alongside a dry stone wall and fabulous views (above) with Avista's formal garden to your right, pass through some trees and across a wooded glade, eventually re-enter more trees and discover Wakedon at the end of the drive.

Additional information:
B&B and other multi-bedroom accommodation is available at Avista's Penrose Cottage.
