Discover the true heart of Scotland from the preserved historic village of Birnam. Situated on the banks of the River Tay, Birnam is home to the magnificent Birnam Oak the last remaining example of Birnam Wood so famous from Shakespeare's Macbeth. Enjoy leisurely walks along the river and cross Telford's Bridge into Dunkeld, the fort of the Celts, with its 15th century Cathedral. Tucked away in this beautifully restored town are a host of shops and many enticing places to eat.

  • Bird watchers can spy ospreys at the nearby Loch of the Lowes while golfers can tee off at the challenging 18 hole Dunkeld Golf Course.
  • Hill Walkers will find an array of terrain minutes from the front door. Mountaineers and Munro baggers can scale the heights of Schiehallion and Ben Lawers half an hour's drive from Birnam.
  • Fishing is available in the lochs and rivers a mere half a mile away, while those who enjoy more arduous river sports can try a spot of white water rafting, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.
  • There are many activities for children including the Beatrix Potter Garden and Exhibition situated across the road in the Birnam Arts and Conference Centre. Going Pottie - paint your own ceramics studio is another hit with the children while Perth is a 20 minute drive away for those who enjoy a spot of retail therapy and a host of other activities.
