Thornthwaite Farm is set amidst the beautiful scenery of the Woodland Valley. We have five cottages including our new 4 star barn conversion (photo on right) with stunning views of the Lakeland fells. The cottages are ideally situated for those wishing to go walking or cycling or just relaxing, with many walks from your cottage door.

We have 150 acres of beautiful woodland to explore, which are a vivid carpet of bluebells in the spring.
Additionally, guests regularly enjoy the opportunity to go badger watching at dusk, watch the fox cubs playing or catch a glimpse of the barn owls out hunting. We also have available to guests our own trout fishing lake and riverbank fishing.
Thornthwaite is located within easy reach of all the major attractions, however if you need to get away from it all and relax in a friendly atmosphere our farm is perfect..

Little Galey sleeps 4

A sixteenth century cottage, with lots of character set in its own secluded garden with patio.
The kitchen/dining room contains an oven and hob, microwave, washer/dryer and fridge freezer.
The large lounge has a log fire and ample comfortable seating.
There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The bedrooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard using quality furnishings in solid oak.
There is a downstairs bathroom containing a huge cast iron bath ideal for a good long relaxing soak after a hard day exploring the lake districts fells, lakes and mountains.

The cottage was originally used for producing cheese until the 1920's when it became a cottage for estate workers. There is a small garden to the front.
The lounge/kitchen has recently been refurbished and features oak flooring and a traditional Lakeland slate fireplace and log fire. The kitchen contains oven and hob, microwave, washer/dryer and fridge freezer.
There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The bedrooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard using quality furnishings in solid oak.
There is a downstairs bathroom containing a huge cast iron bath ideal for a good long relaxing soak after a hard day exploring the lake districts fells, lakes and mountains.

As the name suggests the cottage was originally a stable for the estates heavy horse's whilst they where being re-shod in the adjacent blacksmiths workshop.
The lounge and kitchen features a solid oak kitchen with dishwasher, oven and halogen hob and microwave etc. There is a flat screen television with freeview.
A solid ash spiral staircase leads to the upper floor. There is one double bedroom furnished using quality furnishings in solid oak. The room also features a balcony which overlooks the garden.
The bathroom is fully tiled with under floor heating and a heated towel rail. There is a large corner shower, washbasin and w.c.
The whole property has a solid oak floor with under floor heating.

Blacksmiths Cottage sleeps 4

This cottage was once the Blacksmiths workshop.

Woodmans Cottage sleeps 6

This building was once the heart of the estates forestry operations and used to house a large circular saw for processing trees felled in the woods into planks.
There are magnificent views through the huge feature window to the Coniston fells including Coniston Old Man, Walna Scar, and Dow Crag etc.
This open plan lounge and kitchen has a solid oak kitchen with dishwasher oven and halogen hob, fridge/freezer and microwave etc, and high quality lounge and dining furniture. There is a woodburning fire for those cosy winter nights.
There is a flat screen television with Freeview and DVD.
On the second floor there is a gallery with excellent views out of the feature window.
There are three bedrooms, one double and 2 twin rooms, all are furnished using quality furnishings in solid oak.
There are two bathrooms both are fully tiled with under floor heating. In the downstairs bathroom there is a large glass shower, washbasin and W.C. The upstairs bathroom contains a bath, heated towel rail, washbasin and W.C.
