Welcome to the Slap in the lovely Orkney Islands

I catherine Corsie, your host at
The Slap await you with a warm welcome to our island,an island of outstanding beauty.

The Orkney isles are a beautiful collecton of islands where you will find some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.
Burray can be found to the north of South Ronaldsay (the southernmost of the Orkney islands)the two islands are connected by the 4th Churchill Barrier.  Scapa Flow is one of the best diving sites in the world.  Diving courses can be arranged for the first time diver.  To finish off a hectic day of sightseeing, take a relaxing stroll along one of the many sandy beaches that you will  find in Burray.

May is one of the most beautiful times of the year to visit Orkney, with the summer weather at its best!  May is also lambing time, so why not join us and give us a hand with the new born lambs (you can help lamb, feed the orphan lambs or just be a shepherd for the day.) .Daffy, Garath and Indi are 3 very tame ducks that live near the cottage, all the other ducks, and chickens live on the croft, they laze around their pond most of the day, they will wander down to the cottage to see if you have any scraps of food for them.Eggs are always in the incubator, some hatching some just ready to hatch come and watch us candle the eggs, we do this to check that the babies inside are growing.Well worth a look, this is something that many people never get the chance to see,Domino is the ferret who lazes around his cage keeping an eye on whats going on. Come and meet our little pet North Ronaldsay lambs and sheep, they like to eat seaweed.Petal, April and Joey are our little pet lambs who love lots of cuddles and last but not least Puzzle the very small round very old shetland pony, along with her friends Diamond the black shetland pony and her baby Black Jack, Eddie our little chestnut miniture shetland gelding,Bertie Basset who loves kisses, Snowflake our little skewbald miniture Shetland mare, Patience our grey shetland mare.We welcome people to come on the morning or evening rounds of feeding and checking all the animals and collecting eggs that have been freshly laid.

You are guaranteed a holiday in pleasent surroundings where I will only be to happy to advise you on what you can do around the Islands to make your holiday in the Orkney Islands one to remember.

We also have on the croft a 33ft mobile home, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom with pull down bed, and space in the lounge for another bed, the mobile home has a  new bathroom, its lovely with a really nice shower, tv and dvd player, stereo, saucepans, cutlery, crockery, kettle, microwave etc, teatowels and towels, and all bedding, gas is paid by a ticket meter, tickets avaiable from the main house,£12.00 per ticket and this can last up to a week. There is a £1 coin meter for the electricity, the bedrooms look over to the island of copinsay, and the lounge looks over the Burray village, There is a large decking area outside the caravan with table and chairs, There is also a washing line and large car parking area.  phone for prices of the mobile home.
Short breaks at the cottage and caravan are avilable, depending on the time of year, please phone for details.
SMOKING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED IN THE COTTAGE OR CARAVAN, PLEASE SMOKE OUTSIDE IF YOU WISH TO.

A shed is available to store your bikes or luggage racks in. (gas and electric utilities are subject to change in price, in accordance with gas and electric price rises)On the croft we have 4 little seaweed eating sheep a long with their 4 lambs, they are from the Island of North Ronaldsay were all the sheep live on the beaches eating seaweed. If you like you can gather seaweed and feed it to the babies, they are very tame. Puzzle the pony is 32years old this year a very old lady, but still loves to meet every one who comes to stay.If you like animals this is the place to come.
PLEASE NOTE BECAUSE THIS IS A WORKING CROFT WITH LOTS OF ANIMALS, THERE CAN BE SOME ANIMAL NOISE EARLY IN THE MORNINGS.
Well behaved Pets are more than welcome providing they do not go on the furniture of the cottage or mobile home, and all dog poops are cleaned up and placed in the bins provided. The Sheep are all due to have their babies April 2012.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CHICKENS DUCKS ETC WILL BE AROUND SO DOGS NEED TO BE KEPT UNDER CONTROL, THIS IS DUE TO A DOG RUNNING LOOSE AND KILLING 1 PET DUCK AND TAKING THE FOOT OFF ANOTHER PET DUCK.THIS CAUSED A LOT OF UPSET AND DISTRESS.

If you intend on travelling to Orkney by Northlink Ferries please note that every adult now has to show photographic ID.

Book out now Called When the Tide comes in,This book has been written by a couple that holiday in the cottage every year,It starts in Newcastle and ends up in Orkney and The Slap cottage, its on sale now in Waterstones and Amazon,I've read the proof and if you like thrillers, this is for you.

<
Sorry but due to the extra cleaning time after pets have been to stay, we are going to have to charge a fee of £1.00 per night per pet, pets are still very welcome at our coft.

2012, the sheep are due to start lambing at the end of April,
