LECHLADE-on-THAMES Lechlade-on-Thames is a small town that is more like a village in character, consisting mainly of pretty 17th and 18th century Cotswold stone properties with the River Thames winding along its southern border. In the spring through to the autumn it attracts many visitors to enjoy both the sleepy pace and the ambling waters of the River Thames. There are many inns, restaurants and antique shops in the town and surrounding areas. It is an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area of England with its yellow stone houses and wonderful countryside.
WHERE TO EAT The restaurant in the Lechlade Garden Centre provides excellent light lunches or just coffee and cake, as does the cafe above The Cotswold Wine Merchants in the Market Square. On a hot summer's day you may prefer a ploughman's of generous proportions, eaten on the lawn at the famous and ancient Trout Inn, while watching men mucking about in small boats on the Thames.
