The Bothy is situated at the entrance to Helmsley Walled Garden. The garden lies on the outskirts of the market town of Helmsley, within the North York Moors National Park. - Helmsley Walled Garden is a beautiful five acre walled garden. Dating from 1758, and set against the spectacular backdrop of Helmsley Castle in the grounds of Duncombe Park, the garden is gradually being restored to its former glory. Originally built to supply the Duncombe estate with fruit, vegetables and cut flowers, it was abandoned in the 1970's until, in 1994 extensive restoration was started to bring it back to life as a fully working kitchen garden.
- A bothy is a term for basic accommodation usually for gardeners or other workers on an estate. The Bothy at Helmsley originally provided accommodation for the head gardener. It was rebuilt during the restoration work and now provides simple but comfortable holiday accommodation.
- The single story stone building overlooks open countryside. It is situated next to the walled garden and guests have free access to the garden during opening hours. Guests are also welcome to help in the garden as it relies on voluntary help to maintain its high standard.
