Swallows' Barn is a beautifully converted granary situated 7 miles west of historic Durham City. It benefits from wonderful views over rolling farmland, while being only 15 minutes drive from Durham and 35 minutes from Newcastle. Apart from 2 internal steps, accommodation is on one level, suitable for disabled access. Spacious living areas, modern conveniences and original features combine to make a comfortable and welcoming holiday home for short or longer breaks (pets welcome by arrangement). Accommodation
The cottage can sleep up to 8 but is just as cosy for 2 (reduced rates available).
Centrally heated accommodation comprises 2 double bedrooms (1 en-suite) and a sizeable third bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds. 1 of the doubles is a superking size and can be converted into twin beds if preferred.
The house bathroom has a corner bath and shower.
The large stone-flagged kitchen has a wood-burning stove and a sunny sitting room has an open, log fireplace.
Outside is ample parking, lawn, patio area and BBQ facilities.
Location
Swallows' Barn shares the owner's smallholding with Kune Kune pigs, hens and geese, turkeys and ducks. There are usually eggs to collect for your morning breakfast.
Guests enjoy the tranquil, rural walks in the locality with abundant birdlife and animals.
Numerous local attractions for all ages include: Durham Cathedral and Castle, Beamish Museum, Alnwick Castle, Hadrian's Wall, Weardale, Gateshead Metro Centre, and nearby Diggerland.
Friendly local pubs serve good-value food and Durham has many excellent restaurants.
Cost includes all amenities, towels and bed-linen. A hot meal can be prepared for your arrival on request. Airport pick-up from either Newcastle or Durham/Tees Valley can be organised, as can local car hire.
The owners Caroline and Jon live in the nearby farmhouse and extend a very warm welcome to ensure you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
