Strattons is a delightful, semi-detached property, about 250 years old, much loved and regularly used by our family. It was originally two dwellings which possibly explains the quirky layout and differing ceiling heights in the property.
The pretty village of Christow, in the Dartmoor National Park, is in the unspoilt and largely, undiscovered Teign Valley. It has two shops, a post office and the old thatched village inn, just a stones throw from the cottage. The cottage is well situated for exploring the area and the high moor and coast are within easy reach.
Accommodation A welcoming inner hall leads to a low door, through which is the cosy lounge. In an exposed stone wall, there is an fireplace with a wood burning stove, and a French door opens onto the secluded terrace. On the other side of the house is a large dining room/kitchen which also has a wood-burner. The side door from the kitchen also opens onto the terrace. An old, rather steep wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. Before you reach the top of the stairs, a step off to the right takes you into a twin bedroom. Upstairs the main double bedroom has a comfortable king size bed. From the landing and down another step are doors to the bathroom and another twin bedroom. Facilities - Oil fired central heating - All oil, power, bed linen and towels included.
- TV, DVD player, video recorder, Hi Fi.
- Electric cooker, F/Freezer, Microwave, Dishwasher.
- Enclosed terrace and garden furniture.
- Bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and basin.
- Incoming phone, non-smokers only, Parking on road.
- Well behaved dogs, by arrangement.
With its thick cob and stone walls, the cottage is a cool retreat during baking summer days, yet wonderfully warm and cosy in the cold winter weather. It can be very peaceful at Strattons, but don't be surprised to see a tractor going past or a horse walking by.
