It is in a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is an ideal base for walking, cycling and exploring Hadrian's Wall. Allendale has its own 9 hole golf course. The historic market town of Hexham, with its Abbey dating back to 674 AD, is ten miles away, and Corbridge, where there is a wealth of stylish shops and Corstopitum Roman Fort is close by.
