Set in the street of Milton Abbas, Primrose Cottage is one of the semi-detached cob and thatched houses that make up a unique village created around 1770 by Lord Milton and landscaped by Capability Brown.
The story alone of how, over a generation, he erased the town of Middleton to allow himself to enjoy exclusively his stately home and the peace and quiet of the Abbey makes the village worth a visit.
The cottage, which sleeps four to six, has everything you would expect from a Grade II listed building, and the beamed sitting room has an inglenook fireplace with wood stove. Low doors remind you of the building's age but the 21st century has taken over everywhere else from a modern kitchen and bathroom to the two bedrooms.
Really it's a cottage in which romantics can relax.
