Drumelzier is a tiny village set back form the River Tweed and sheltered by the heather covered hills rising to Broad Law, the highest hill in the Southern Uplands (2,756 ft). The local industry is agriculture and specifically sheep farming which co-exists with an abundance of wildlife encouraged by the Tweedsmuir Hills SSSI.
Activities on the doorstep include many walks and cycle routes, fishing on the Tweed (permit required), golf and plenty of culture and gardens to visit including Dawyck Botanic Garden.
