Purpose-built at the turn of the 20th Century as a holiday village, we offer a choice of two lovely late-Victorian cottages in the picturesque village of Powfoot, on the Solway Coast, for either weekly holiday let, or short break rental.

Bella Vista
  • Built in 1898, Bella Vista offers accommodation for up to 5 people.
  • Built of red brick and retaining many charming original features, the house has comfortable, modern and stylish facilities for a family, group of friends or indeed is ideal as a romantic holiday for two!
  • There is a living room with coastal views, a fully equipped hand made kitchen with fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, cooker and microwave, separate formal dining room with table and chairs seating 6, large bathroom with separate shower cubicle, and two double bedrooms (one with a single bed annex). Fantastic new walk-in shower enclosure installed.
  • The reception rooms have open coal fires, and a new colour TV/DVD/CD player with Freeview and a selection of DVD's are all supplied (an X-BOX with games can be hired upon request, subject to availability.)
  • Externally, there is an attractive sheltered private front garden, with garden furniture, table and seating, and off street parking to the rear of the property for one car (or more by arrangement), with a lockable storage building for golf clubs or cycles etc.
  • Beyond the front garden, there is also a public park (with pavilion and picnic bench), which also directly overlooks the shoreline. Picnic basket and disposable barbecue supplied.
  • A travel cot/moses basket and stand/high chair/ baby change mat/ bouncy cradle can be hired upon request, refer to "How to Book."
  • If there are more than 2 children in the party, please enquire.
  • Please note that no smoking is allowed inside the property.
The Old Post Office
  • Situated in the centre of the village, with uninterrupted sea views, the Old Post Office has two double bedrooms (one with an extra single bed) and can sleep up to 5 people, again suitable for families/friends or couples. If the futon/sofa bed in bedroom 1 is utilized, this can bring the accommodation total to 6/7.
  • For many years this was the local Post Office and shop, now converted to very contemporary and stylish open-plan seaside house. The re-fitted property has a fantastic outlook onto the large sandy beach from the living room and large bedroom 1, and has a well-equipped kitchen/dining area, in a modern style, including fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, cooker and microwave.
  • The living room has a new colour TV/DVD/CD player with Freeview (an X-BOX with games can be hired upon request, subject to availability.)
  • Fantastic brand new bathroom installed.
  • A stylish king-size 4 poster bed has recently been added to bedroom 1 (available for the luxury/honeymoon package).
  • There is a quaint front garden with open sea views, and a more private large rear garden with patio area and lawn, with garden furniture.
  • Off street parking is available for up to 3 cars.
  • A well-behaved dog is welcome subject to a returnable deposit bond (see terms and conditions relating to pets on "How to Book" page.)
  • A picnic basket and disposable barbecue are provided, and a travel cot/moses basket and stand/high chair/baby change mat/bouncy cradle can be hired upon request.
  • There is secure space to store sports equipment, golf clubs and cycles, etc.
  • If there are more than 2 children in the party, please enquire.
  • Please also note that no smoking is allowed inside the property.
Location
  • Both properties are directly on the sea front, and have uninterrupted coastal views, as well as offering very stylish holiday accommodation.
  • There is a small local park, and good pub food is only 5 minutes walk away!
  • The area has many attractions, including a challenging 18-hole links golf course, an excellent, privately-hired Spa including small pool with current, sauna and hot tub (various pampering /treatment packages available including wedding packages - not currently open in December) horse/pony riding on the beach (seasonal - please enquire), cycling, fishing, bird watching and walking. These are all a stroll from either cottage.
  • Both cottages provide a perfect and romantic base for honeymooners and wedding parties alike (under 10 minutes from Comlongon Castle, and under 20 minutes from Gretna and Caerlaverock Castle, they are an extremely popular choice (special luxury/honeymoon packages available - please see How to Book page).
  • The cottages are ideally situated as a base from which to visit the world class 7 Stanes mountain biking trails, and being members of the MBBN (Mountain Bike Business Network) we offer facilities specifically for mountain bikers, such as secure storage and washing/drying facilities.
  • However you prefer to relax, there is something here for you. The warmer West Coast climate makes the local beaches and countryside very pleasant all year round; there are wonderful local walks to take in the rich variety of wildlife including the rare Natterjack toad.
  • Powfoot is on, and therefore an ideal base for, the Galloway Tourist Route and Solway Coast Heritage Trail, an incredible coastal drive which takes you on quiet roads to an abundance of castles and abbeys of amazing beauty and interest, and the Robbie Burns Trail.
  • The Sustrans Cycleway passes through nearby Annan with its red sandstone buildings and distinctive clock tower, over the purpose-built river bridge, this being excellent for cyclists both experienced and new.
  • There are lots of local places of interest to visit, ranging from potteries, Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District, ice cream factories, activity centres and farms, Castles and picturesque towns and villages to art museums and galleries (e.g. Edward Atkinson Hornell's Broughton House, studio and incredible Japanese garden in Kirkcudbright).
  • Local events and festivals take place every year, including the 'TheWickerman Festival.'
