Oriel Lodge is a peaceful Edwardian detached house, built in the Arts-and-Crafts style in 1907, and set in a tree-lined residential area near the picturesque Westgate Gardens. Three self-contained apartments on the first (upper) floor retain the welcoming and restful period style, with high quality furnishings and fittings, and clean, up-to-date facilities. Clean, quiet accommodation in a pleasant residential area. Private parking, with easy access by car. Five minutes walk to the city centre, through the Westgate Gardens. Five minutes walk to shops, restaurants and pubs on St.Dunstans Street. Nine minutes walk to the Cathedral. Rail and bus stations, university and colleges within walking distance. Sorry, no smoking, no pets, no children under six. Prices include heating, electricity, bed-linen and towels. Broadband internet connection available. Weekly, weekend and weekday bookings available. Canterbury itself is a small and very historic city, regarded as East Kent's 'Capital of Culture', with its outstanding Cathedral and other historic sites, together with a wide choice of restaurants, shops, entertainment and recreation - all within easy walking distance. With a charming setting of mediaeval streets, old buildings and beautiful public gardens, it is the ideal base for visiting South-East England on holiday or business, or for a short break combining interest with relaxation.
Accommodation
The apartments are totally non-smoking, and have a comfortable sitting area with settee or easy chairs, colour TV and radio/stereo player, a dining area and kitchenette equipped with a small fridge, cooker and microwave, kettle, toaster, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery, tea towels and cloths, a bedroom with high-grade, comfortable beds and bedding, TV/video recorder, radio/alarm clock, dressing table with mirror and hair drier, and an en-suite shower room with efficient plumbed-in shower, WC, washbasin and shaver point.  The house is centrally heated, with individually-controlled radiators in each room. A laundry room adjacent to the apartments has a washing machine, tumble drier, iron and board. A small charge for use of the machines is made by means of an "honesty book". A payphone for outgoing calls is situated in the main entrance hall. The South Apartment (for one or two persons) - photo above - has views across gardens and towards the Cathedral, and has a bedroom with double bed and sitting area, en-suite shower room, and a separate small kitchenette and dining area.
 The West Apartment (for two persons) - photo on right - looking over the trees and grass of Queens Avenue, has a bedroom with twin single beds or king-size double bed, en-suite shower room, and a second room with kitchenette and sitting area.
The East Apartment (for two or three persons), with outlooks across gardens towards the Cathedral and the distant Blean Woods, has an L-shaped room with sitting area, dining area and kitchenette, and a bedroom with double bed and en-suite shower room. A bed-settee in the sitting area can sleep a third person, with access to the shower and WC being through the double bedroom.
