THIS CHARMING COTTAGE and its surroundings, although only an 8 minute walk from the village, are the epitome of country living. A blend of traditional and modern features, throughout the cottage, awaits the discerning guest.

One can sit and listen to the natural stream, running alongside the large enclosed garden, to the west side of the cottage, which is ideal for games.

In the summer months, the cottage garden to the front and the extensive decking area with its copious supply of party lights, garden furniture and barbecues, take full advantage of the sun from sunrise to sunset. In the cooler months, a flag stoned patio sheltered by the stone porch and stone wall offers a welcome sun trap. Both areas enjoy views of the ocean, Benbulben Mountain, WB Yeats County, across the water and are idyllic for garden parties.

The area is a haven for the outdoor enthusiast and equally, for those who desire a more relaxed holiday:
  • Beautiful untouched scenery awaits the amateur photographer or your paintbrush and canvas.
  • Stunning coastal drives with each turn more breathtaking than the other.
  • An abundance of water sports/activities including river and sea-fishing. Site-seeing and fishing trips can be arranged with Paddy.

  • Cycling

  • The Aislann Centre at the bottom of the quaint "Molly Jingle Bray": fully-equipped gym, sports hall, snooker, library, computer suite etc.
  • family can get involved, especially during the summer months.
  • The 'Round Tower Spinning Mill' TRADE FAIR.
On a summer 's night, in the cosy taverns, you can experience a wealth of traditional Irish music and folk-singing while enjoying the laid-back way of life; or you can choose the more lively pubs which cater for all age groups with a wide variety of music. You can wine and dine in several fine restaurants in the surrounding areas which offer cuisine to suit all tastes, some of which have fabulous views. There are several festivals and traditional Irish music 'fleadhs' in which all the in which all the family can get involved, especially during the summer months.

The 'Round Tower Spinning Mill' was established in Kilcar during the 1940's; due to the fact that there had already been a fairly lucrative cottage industry in the area previous to this, its workers had already acquired the skills necessary to turn it into the success that it is renowned for. Johnny McGroarty (father of Charlie, the present owner) was one of these people, he was born and reared in the old wing of Ocean View Cottage itself and spent many years working from his shed which is now part of the cottage. From different pieces of yarn that he had leftover, he designed and wove a piece that WON A GOLD MEDAL AT THE 'INTERNATIONAL HANDICRAFTS AND IN MUNICH, 1958. This was a great achievement at a time when there were so many weavers in the area and even in Ireland. Although technology has taken over to a certain extent, hand looms are still present in the Kilcar factory to this day.
