This unique, stone farm cottage, near Holy Island, has been lovingly restored to offer an environmentally-friendly holiday. It stands in a beautiful, tranquil, old-fashioned cottage garden on a small family farm. You can explore our farm trail and the peaceful surrounding open countryside. Discover the wild Cheviot Hills, Northumbrian castles and deserted sandy beaches.
Inside Newt Cottage The light, pretty living room has exposed beams, ceiling airer and an old Tweed range to create a traditional atmosphere. There's a wide screen television, DVD/video player, CD/radio/cassette and telephone. The new pine kitchen has a ceramic sink, plate rack and pan hanger. We've chosen energy efficient appliances: dishwasher, built in hob and oven, fridge/freezer, washer-drier and microwave. There are two bedrooms; 1 has a double bed and the other two singles. Enjoy a luxurious night's sleep on unbleached organic cotton bedding and organic wool pillows. In the upstairs bathroom there's a shower above the bath and a dual flush toilet. All towels are unbleached organic cotton. Green Features - The Cottage has a central heating system run by an energy-efficient air-source heat pump. Solar panels heat the domestic hot water.
- We've used sheep's wool insulation and chosen solid wood and natural fibres where possible.
- Paints and wood waxes throughout the cottage are free of harmful solvents and all soaps and cleaning fluids are eco-friendly.
Outside Newt Cottage - The lovely cottage garden has a family picnic bench and rose arbour.
- There are fruit bushes, flowers and bird feeders around a generous lawn.
Newt Cottage is at Hunting Hall, a traditional mixed farm, 2 miles from Lowick. Farmer Tom Burn and his wife, Karen, are enthusiastic conservationists who have carried out many environmental projects on the farm which is a wonderful haven for wildlife.
