Stable Cottage sleeps four (+cot, if required), in a self-contained barn conversion on a small organic farm in the beautiful Lorton Valley. The cottage has a good location on the edge of the traditional farmyard, with Stanger Beck running past beneath the windows. The views from the first floor living area stretch down to the river Cocker and beyond to the slopes of Whin Fell.

Accommodation

There are two ground floor bedrooms (double and twin).
The bathroom and a small utility area are also on the ground floor.
The first floor has an open plan area with large lounge, kitchen and dining area.
There is an additional toilet on the first floor.
Heating is by storage heaters, with an open fire in the lounge.
Hot water is provided by sophisticated solar panels (backed up by immersion heater).
There is space for parking for two cars.
Seasonal farm produce (vegetables, fruit and eggs) are available - doorstep milk delivery can be arranged.

Stanger

Low Stanger Farm is situated in Stanger, a small, peaceful, settlement situated approximately mid-way between Cockermouth and the picturesque village of Lorton.
The hamlet is reached via a no-through road, and there are a number of footpaths and bridleways leading straight out of the farmyard into the surrounding farmland.

Things to Do

Stanger is a good location for exploring the Lorton Valley, Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere. There is a network of footpaths, bridleways and quiet by-roads criss-crossing the valley, and there is ample access to the surrounding fells.
The river Cocker runs through the farm; the river is an SSSI and supports a variety of wildlife, including otter and kingfishers. Fly fishing is available to visitors at no charge.
The Western lakes of Ennerdale and Wastwater are within easy reach, and in these places there is often the sort of quiet solitude that is associated with Lakeland.
The market town of Cockermouth is only two miles away, and here can be found an excellent selection of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops, as well as attractions like Wordsworth House (National Trust), and Jennings Brewery (tours daily).
