Hilltop Cottage, Dalton – Visitors Reviews 2012
30th March 2012
Hilltop Cottage is beautiful both inside and out.
There is a wonderful peaceful atmosphere all around. Just what we needed at this time in our life. Sadly we are unable to enjoy the wonderful walks due to my husband’s illness but the visual beauty is stunning.  The cottage is immaculate and the hospitality is excellent.
Thank you for your kindness and welcoming us into this special place, a gem of tranquillity!

We have had a very cosy and comfortable stay at Hilltop Cottage. Quite cold to begin with but as the week progressed it got hotter. A most enjoyable week visiting places we visited with our three children over twenty years ago, plus others. Anyone wanting a snack lunch visit “Nest” in Barnard Castle.
Many thanks for the use of your cottage.

Such a pleasant comfortable stay in Hilltop Cottage which has so obviously been decorated and furnished with a lot of love.  With pretty awful weather outside we’ve been very cosy indoors.
Lots of historical sites around, we’ve loved the Castles and Abbeys – Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley, Richmond and Middleham Castles all worth a visit and Barnard Castle town, a charming little shopping area.
We’ll be taking rainy but happy memories of Yorkshire back home to Cape Town, S. Africa
Many thanks Sheila and Peter

A really lovely cottage, very comfortable and warm,  We have had a lovely holiday and have been so lucky with the weather, hardly any rain.
Many thanks Peter and Sue, Wymondham

What a delightful cottage! Certainly deserving of its rating. Our week had mixed weather but we got out and about every day. The country ride was beautiful. Some of the things we enjoyed: Fountains Abbey, Wensleydale Railway, Aysgarth Falls, Raby Castle and the pub in Ravensworth  which must qualify for the best (size included) fish and chips in Yorkshire, perhaps even Britain!

Back here to our “home from home” again. As always the cottage is immaculate and for us is a 5star not 4star rating. I think this is the worst week of weather we have ever had (but then there’s been no summer!) – but it doesn’t matter as we can just perfectly chill out.
Many thanks, as always Sue and Richard

Had a very enjoyable week. Echo everything that has been said about the cottage with the addition about the smashing towels (nice and big). If it should rain! a great day out The Bowes Museum. Worth a visit to Flatts Woods in Barnard Castle, then after your walk call in for a bite to eat at the Nest café.

We have enjoyed the peace and quiet in this excellent cottage. Not really July weather but it hasn’t stopped us going out and about enjoying ourselves.
Thank you very much for everything

This is our first experience of "Hill Top Cottage" and we're so glad we found it on the website and that you'd had a cancellation! It is such a tranquill place, so comfortable and welcoming - lovely to come back to after a day out (specially when overcome by a rain-storm on the moors!.  We have enjoyed our stay here and in the village - such friendly people in Dalton.  In fact, when we were on our way home via Leeds, at the weekend, we just couldn't go, so turned round and came back - (expect you've heard of these strange folk who drive the wrong way up/down a motorway!). Its a real tonic to stay here.
Thank you Richard and Sue for this lovely place; for all the maps/books/DVDs/info. We've loved the surrounding countryside - some good walks, beautiful scenery, castles, art/craft shops/galleries, tea-rooms and delicious local ice-cream!
And "Hill Top" is so well-equipped. Thank you for all the attention to detail to make us so comfy. We loved all the bird/wildlife - its a stunning area.

A warm welcome to a lovely comfortable cottage, weather dry and sunny everyday. Visitied all the places we had on our list, Kiplin Hall well worth a visit.  The Farm Shop serves very good food and lots to take away, a bit of a shock to see a camel! but all very interesting.
Thank you

Beautiful cottage. Very comforable and warm, in stunning countryside.  Although unable to do any of the walks, we have visited all the places we wished to see and make Middleham Castle well worth a visit, and had a lovely day at Barnard Castle. A very relaxing and peaceful break.
Thank you Sue and Richard

Lovely cottage, clean and comfortable, nice to return to after a day out. Welcoming with peace and quiet. Drive over Butter Tubs and Tan Hill well worth it, Views fantastic but make sure its good visibility.  So many places to see, we’ll have to return.

What a delightful cottage – so peaceful and comfortable.  The ideal place to do some writing.  I will feature the cottage in several short stories.  I have been to many cottages but this one provides the right atmosphere for writing.  Thanks for the hospitality.  I will certainly be back.

Can understand why so many people come back. The cottage provided a peaceful haven in which to relax and re-charge our batteries.  A fantastic location, beautiful scenery and lots of interesting places to visit – Barnard Castle, High Force, Raby Castle, Richmond.  We would love to come back. Many thanks.

Arrived in glorious sunshine. Through lovely countryside. Lovely cottage well equipped. Visited Barnard Castle, then into Teesdale to High Force and Low Force waterfalls. Nature at its best. Cooler Tuesday but still sunny. Explored Richmond and surrounding area.  All in all a lovely few days in peaceful surroundings.

What a cottage!! What a Christmas!! Absolutely perfect, a great getaway. This cottage had everything we needed and a lot more. I'm sure we will be back. Very central to lots of places, yet lots of lovely walks locally.
We would highly recommend the Oak Tree Inn at Hutton Magna, absolutely fantastic meal, with the service to match.
Sue was very welcoming, very helpful before and during our stay. Endless supplys of wood and coal for the very warming open fire, we can't wait to get back to it another year.
