High Houses is a 1669 Cumbrian farmhouse perched aloft a hill in the quieter Northern Lakes in Cumbria. There are three bedrooms, lovingly restored, whilst still retaining many original features, a bathroom and shower room. There is also central heating and electricity, supplied by generator. The views alone are quite breathtaking - West to Scotland, Galloway and Kirkcudbrightshire, over the Solway Firth, North and East to the Langholm Hills in the Borders. A short walk onto the fell behind the house gives you what Wainwright describes as 'One of the best views in the Lakes', and from here it is possible to see three peaks - Helvelyn, Coniston Old Man and Skiddaw. The house is completely surrounded by fell and farmland. There are stone slab floors, open beams and open fires. High Houses can be let on a self catering basis or I can cater for guests. There are 2 sitting rooms, one with inglenook fire and one with wood burning stove and piano. Activities Stables at the farm half a mile away for livery purposes only, provided for people wishing to bring their own horses. Wild Life Watch - Roe deer, badgers and fox watching. Stalking - Roe deer stalking available. Shooting - The farm has an established pheasant and rough shoot.
