Situation
Heather Cottage is situated amidst the most beautiful countryside on a traditional Northumbrian farm. The single storey, south facing cottage has a lovely view (as shown in this photo) and is a haven of peace and tranquillity. To the rear is a large well maintained garden with outdoor furniture and barbecue. The peaceful country lanes and footpaths are excellent for walking and cycling, while the cottage provides a comfortable and convenient base for those wishing to tour the North Northumberland region.
Hetton North Farm is set in the heart of the Till Valley, a hidden area of outstanding beauty, which lies between the coast, the Cheviot Hills and the Rivers Till and Tweed. Many glorious sandy beaches are to be found within a short drive (the superb beach at Bamburgh is only 10 miles).
The village of Lowick is just 2 miles away and has a shop, post office and two public houses, both serving food. The area offers excellent golf courses and fishing.
Distances: Berwick 12 miles, Holy Island 6 miles, Wooler and the Cheviots 6 miles, Belford 6 miles, Bamburgh 10 miles, Alnwick 20 miles.
Hetton North Farm The traditional family run 250 acre farm comprises Suckler cows and calves, and a small herd of pedigree Charolais cows and calves, with calving taking place in the spring and autumn, and crops of oats, barley and wheat. Sheep are bought in as ewe lambs, and sold the following year to be bred from. Visitors are welcome to view the many farming activities, from feeding to sheep shearing, silage and hay making, harvesting and viewing all the new born calves. There is something to see at all times of the year!
The Coal burn runs through the farm flanked by woods and fields, offering many inviting places to have a picnic. The farm buildings are mainly traditional in character, built of stone and consisting of old fashioned arched cart sheds, byres and hemmels. There is ample storage available for cycles, canoes, climbing equipment etc. Guests may even bring their own horse - accommodation can be arranged.
Hetton North Farm has a charm all of its own that few can rival, and many of our guests return year after year to share in its magic.
