Kirkton of Balmerino is very centrally located for touring Scotland, being only a few miles from the main motorway network, approximately one hour's drive from Edinburgh and one and a half hours' drive from Glasgow. - Why not explore the picturesque fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife, full of whitewashed buildings with red pantiled roofs and crow-stepped gables, overlooking cobbled winding streets leading to secluded little fishing harbours? In the summer months, the villages host festivals of art, crafts, music, theatre - you'll be spoilt for choice.
- It is also ideal for walkers and cyclists, and the cottage contains a number of suggested walking and cycling routes - all laminated, so that you can take them with you.
- Historians may be interested in visiting the ruins of Balmerino Abbey - a Cistercian monastery, founded in 1229 and only half a mile away from the cottage.
- The mediaeval university town of St Andrews with its city walls, castle and cathedral ruins has much to explore. It also boasts beautiful sandy beaches - the award winning 'Chariots of Fire' was filmed on the west sands - in addition to a wide range of shops, restaurants, Byre Theatre, cinema and leisure centre.
- The Haven and Little Haven are close to a number of excellent golf courses - championship links, challenging parkland layouts, fun nine-holers and great value courses - no fewer than 45 different golfing venues await you in Fife. The most famous of all of courses being The Old Course at St Andrews, scene of the 2005 Open Championship.
- For those interested in other sporting activities, there is a riding school around 9 miles away in the middle of Tentsmuir Forest, offering miles of forest and beach riding. Obviously being on the banks of the Tay and close to many beaches, also means that there are plenty of opportunities to indulge in watersports - sailing, canoeing, water ski-ing and windsurfing being the most popular. Head down to Elie in the East Neuk for a great range of water based activities.
- Heading north across the water to Dundee, again around half an hour's drive from the cottage, you will find the Royal Research Ship "Discovery", built in Dundee to take Captain Scott to Antarctica. The ship is berthed at Discovery Point and is part of an award winning visitor attraction. You will also find some lovely parklands, such as Camperdown, to explore.
Accommodation The Haven is adjacent to Little Haven. It is a recent addition, built in stone, to retain the traditional character of its neighbour. It is situated in beautifully landscaped garden grounds, part of which is shared with Little Haven, but it also has its own private garden, with beautiful, uninterrupted views over the Tay, towards Dundee and the Perthshire hills. - It has been sympathetically designed to merge seamlessly with Little Haven, and maintains a warm, cosy atmosphere, with oak flooring throughout the ground floor and a vaulted wooden ceiling in the entrance hallway.
 - The accommodation is over two floors, with one twin bedroom and shower room downstairs and two double bedrooms upstairs - one of which has an en-suite bathroom. The dining hall has an unusual vaulted ceiling. All of the rooms look out over the gardens and have views of the river.
