About the Location: - Ar Neamh Beag is situated on an elevated position overlooking Bantry Bay on the Sheep's head peninsula between the Mizen head to the south and the Beara peninsula to the north.
- On the north side of the bay opposite the house, a lighthouse at Roancarrigmore may be observed 'flashing' every night. This is located near Adrigole on the road into Castletownbere.
- Castletownbere itself sits ensconced neatly behind Bare island which is the island/ land mass to the left as you gaze across the bay from Ar Neamh Beag. The distance across Bantry bay is circa 7.2km (4.5m).
- Apart from fronting onto the sea, Ar Neamh Beag is also nestled at the foot of a small mountain called Caher-mountain which measures 338 meters above sea level.
The Sheep's Head Peninsula Sheep's Head/ Muntervary: this is at the very tip of the Sheep's head peninsula (next stop America). From Ar Neamh Beag, simply drive west across the mountain to Kilcrohane, wherein you take a right turn. Follow the windy but very scenic road until you end up in a car park overlooking the sea. Park here, but bare in mind it can occasionally be windy. There is a gorgeous walk out to the Sheep's head from the car park across reasonably level terrain. The walk is circa 4km (2.5m) long. A light house and a helli-pad sits at the end of the peninsula.
Air India Memorial Gardens: Following the Air India disaster in 1985 in which a Boeing 747 exploded in mid air off the Irish coast killing all passengers and crew on board, a commemorative garden was constructed to commemorate the victims of this tragedy/ terrorist attack. This is located in Ahakista, which as the crow flies is on the other side of the mountain from Ar Neamh Beag. Travel to Kilcrohane, and turn left at the T junction travelling east. Ahakista is circa 5.5km (3.5 miles) further on. The commemorative garden is on the right hand side of the road overlooking the sea.
Goats path/ sheep's head walking and cycling route: The sheep's head is one of Ireland's premier walking and cycling routes. It is recommended that you procure an ordinance survey map; Discovery series 88.
Bantry: Is host to a number of restaurants. Wolf Tone the famous Irish patriot landed here with a contingent of French warships in 1796/8 and a stature stands to his memory in 'Wolf Tone square'.
