Welcome to the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, a very special island set on the outermost edges of the Atlantic Ocean.

On this beautiful island we have built three timber-framed houses near the site of the old Finsbay Sporting Lodge. Much thought was put into both the construction and the siting of these houses. They are in a wonderful situation on the south east coast of the Isle of Harris, overlooking the river running into Loch Finsbay. The loch abounds with seals and the occasional otter, and the river is used by migrating salmon and seatrout. In all it is a very peaceful and wonderful situation, framed by the backdrop of the spectacular Harris hills.

Arran House has the highest position of the three self-catering houses. It is a quiet and peaceful house with wonderful views looking over the river estuary and to the sea-loch at Finsbay. The timber-clad house is built with every comfort to make your holiday as comfortable as possible. Rooms are bright and tastefully furnished.

  • Within easy reach of the houses are the 15th century Church at Rodel and the wonderful sandy beaches of the west coast of Harris. To the north and on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis are the ancient and mysterious Callanish Stones, built of Lewisian gniess around 5000 years ago. Further along the coast at Carloway lies the remains of the old Broch, built around the 1st century BC by ancient tribes, possibly the Picts. The most northerly point of Lewis is the Butt of Lewis, famous for its lighthouse and spectacular cliffs.
  • Sea trips can also be arranged locally, either for sea fishing or for sight-seeing. The most spectacular of these trips are to the now deserted Islands of St Kilda with its diverse and interesting bird life or to the nearer islands of the Shiants, noted for their large colony of puffins which inhabit the islands during the breeding season.
  • Harris is also popular with bird-watchers. There are birds of the sea, birds of the loch and birds of the moor. Golden eagles and the sea-eagles of the hills and cliffs are among the bird-watchersí favourites. In the Spring and in the Autumn, Harris is frequently visited by many interesting and rare migrating birds, either going north or south.
  • Among other interests in Harris are hill-walking, fishing in the lochs for salmon, seatrout or brown trout (with the owners permission), golfing on Scaristaís famous 9 hole golf course, sailing, wind-surfing, beach sailing and kayaking.
  • Harris is particularly famous for the world renowned Harris Tweed which the local people still weave in their homes. These homes, as well as various Harris Tweed outlets, can be visited while you are on the island and from where you can purchase the tweed and often clothes and goods made from the tweed.
