East Kames was built in 1997 and has a magnificent position overlooking Kames Bay which is close to the head of Loch Melfort. It has extensive grounds and a gate from the garden gives direct access to the shore where you may well see seals, cormorants and eider duck.

This is a truly wonderful base from which to explore. A short walk down the road are the renowned Arduaine Gardens. Go south and watch the boats using the Crinan Canal between the Sound of Jura and Loch Fyne or maybe stop before you get there and take a walk back in history at Kilmartin Glen. To the east is the aptly named Loch Awe or you can travel a few miles up the road and drive westwards across the Atlantic Ocean onto the Isle of Seil. Oban, often referred to as the Gateway to the Isles because of the many ferry routes and day trips that originate from here is approximately 20 minutes drive to the north. The island of Mull and the ever popular Tobermory (or should that be Balamory) make an excellent day trip. There are a wide variety of eating places nearby.

Accommodation
This is a large modern house on one level which can easily accommodate extended family groups or two families. There are 5 bedrooms, 3 of which have en-suite facilities. A feature of the layout is that 2 of the bedrooms and the second living room can be closed off, thereby making the house suitable for smaller family groups during the off peak season at reduced rates. The accommodation comprises:
  • A large open plan kitchen with breakfast bar at the centre of the house.
  • A dining area with patio doors to the main courtyard.
  • A living room with patio doors giving extensive views of the bay and hills beyond.
  • A good sized entrance hall with utility room off.
  • There are 3 bedrooms each sleeping 2 people and a house bathroom off the main bedroom corridor.
  • A second living room leads off the kitchen and there are 2 bedrooms each sleeping 2 people on the far side of this living room.

Facilities

  • Gas hob, electric double oven and grill, microwave, 2 fridges, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, automatic washing machine, tumble dryer, iron / ironing board. Water is from a spring supply.
  • 2 colour televisions, DVD, stereo with CD, hair dryer and shaver points.
  • Modern hot water underfloor heating system throughout apart from the second living room and two of the bedrooms which have electric panel heaters.
  • Log burning stove in the main living room.
