The castles and fine farmsteads of this part of England were built from the riches of the medieval wool trade. It's still sheep-farming country; a spacious and unspoilt sweep to the Black Mountains. Dukes Farm was sited by a beautiful spring that still trickles through the yard. The building materials would have been sawn down, dug up and plastered together on site, so it looks as if it's grown here. There are wonderful walks and varied day-trips nearby, all documented in our Visitors' Guide.
The intriguing towns of Hereford, Monmouth, Abergavenny, Brecon, Ross and Hay-on-Wye are all less than an hour away.
