The Local Area
This quiet corner of the Lake District could surprise you. Kirkby in Furness itself is a lovely village, made up of collection of seven attractive hamlets. The local area is a pleasant mix of farmland, marshland, heathland and woodland.

  • The village has everything you could need for your holiday - 3 local pubs, a village shop and post office, a children's play area, cricket pitch, bowling green and tennis court.
  • From your holiday apartment there are numerous walks such as the climb to the top of Kirkby Moor.
  • The Duddon Estuary offers fishing and canoeing or you could have a go at sand surfing.
  • And if you enjoy cycling, there are miles of quiet lanes and roads with superb views to the Lakeland fells.
  • The historical market town of Ulverston is only 4 miles away where you can visit the Laurel and Hardy museum, enjoy the town's festivals or enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by.
  • Within a 30 minute drive, there is a wealth of things to do. You can explore Coniston, Hawkshead, Bowness and Windermere; spend a day at Grizedale Forest with its miles of walking and cycling trails and have a go at orienteering or the high level "Go Ape" experience; South Lakes Animal Park is better than a safari and will keep you (and the kids!) entertained, amazed and fascinated for days; Windermere Steamers and Haverthwaite Railway are virtually on your doorstep; and the Aquarium of the Lakes tell the story of the Lake District from mountain top to coastline.
