At the end of a 2 mile drive, with incredible views and private land all around, this cottage feels extremely remote. Yet the charming market town of Monmouth is ten minutes away for easy shopping, eating and browsing, and getting here is quick and easy. The cottage looks down to the Vale of Usk and up to the mountains, and is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, the skies are dark at night, and the only noises are church bells from the hamlet of Cwmcarvan on the far hill, occasional farm traffic, and cows and sheep in the nearby fields. Accommodation
The cottage is on a working farm, always popular with children. It sits in front of a bluebell wood where deer and woodpeckers are often seen. In the large garden there is a big bbq, a dining table for eight, ropes for children to swing on, and a swing seat surrounded by lilac and roses.
The cottage is very sunny, with three south-facing bedrooms (one king, one double and one downstairs twin room, with patio doors on to a little terrace), and a south-facing sitting/dining room.
The kitchen is bright, with a door into the garden and also opens on to the sitting room, so good for chatting while you cook.
There is a big upstairs bathroom with bath and shower, as well as a downstairs shower-room (with disabled access), and utility room.
The bedrooms are simple, with crisp, cotton linen and Welsh blankets on the beds, and fresh flowers on antique pine dressing tables. We provide white, fluffy towels, logs for your warm open fires, pictures on the walls and lots of books to read.
There is nothing sterile about this place, yet it has most 'mod-cons' such as ipod docking station, microwave and tumble drier. We are very happy to offer advice on activities when you get here.
Location There is cycling and mountain biking, kayacking on the river Wye, beautiful hilly walks on the doorstep and in the Brecon Beacons 20 minutes away, golf (Celtic Manor, the Ryder Cup venue is also 20 minutes away), and lots of good gastro-pubs and restaurants, including a Michelin-starred restaurant five miles from here. Monmouth is a charming old market town, but there is also Ross, Usk, Abergavenny and Chepstow, as well as the cities of Cardiff and Bristol, both less than an hour away.
