Crummockwater Cottages at Foulsyke are magnificently located in the Loweswater valley, enjoying what we, and many others, consider to be one of the best views in England! From the grounds there is a breath-taking view down the length of Crummock Water towards Haystacks and Great Gable, with Grasmoor and Rannerdale on the left and Melbreak and the High Stile range to the right.

Foulsyke was originally an old manor house dating back to the 16th century and the cottages are converted from the former barn and stables to provide spacious, warm and comfortable holiday accommodation. They are accessed through the arched carriage entrance, dated 1797, leading into the courtyard.

The Cottages
We have three cottages, Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater, all of which have achieved VisitEngland 5 star with Gold Award rating. Our aim is to provide high quality and friendly holiday accommodation. All the cottages are very well furnished with guests' comfort and enjoyment in mind and are equipped, cleaned and maintained to the highest standard.

Buttermere Cottage (sleeps 2) was originally a former hay loft (complete with dated inscriptions of 1654 and 1827) which has been carefully converted to provide unique and private accommodation on one level.

Crummock Cottage (sleeps 2-4) is on a corner of the courtyard and has views in three directions, towards Low Fell, the Lorton valley and over the courtyard towards Grasmoor. The two bedrooms (one double, one twin) and bathroom are on the ground floor and an open staircase leads first to the kitchen and dining area and then to the light and airy living area which is open to, but separated from, the kitchen by a wooden balustrade.

Loweswater Cottage (sleeps 2-6) is full of character and incorporates the original carriageway arch. It sleeps up to six guests with two bedrooms downstairs (one double, one twin) with separate bathroom and a third upstairs with en-suite shower room: ideal for families and friends who enjoy being together but also like their own space. The lounge/dining room is impressively large and spacious and includes the high vaulted ceiling of the original barn.

Each cottage has its own outside area with table and chairs. There is ample off-road parking and lockable bike sheds can be provided.

Location

Excellent base for North Western/Western fells: walks at all levels start from door.
Popular with cyclists and bird watchers.
Local boating and fishing.
Market towns of Cockermouth and Keswick within easy reach: road links to much of Lakeland/ Cumbrian Coast.
Excellent places to eat within few miles: 10 minute walk to award winning inn.
