The Brimbles is an idyllic rural retreat on the Dartmoor borders in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty focused on the Tamar River that forms the border between Devon and Cornwall. Situated off a quiet cul-de sac, this 150 years old former miner's cottage built of stone with a slate roof has recently been sympathetically renovated to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation.

The cottage is attached to the owner's home but is completely private and self-contained, it comprises:
  • A living room on the ground floor with beamed ceiling, open fire, Kelim rug, comfortable seating, table, TV, video, DVD, radio, tape and CD player, and a selection of books and games.
  • A flight of stairs leads up to a kitchen/dining room fully equipped with an electric 4-burner ceramic hob, oven and grill, microwave, fridge/freezer, all kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery, tea towels and glasses for a party of four. There is also a marble-topped round table and two chairs.
  • The bedroom has windows at each end with lovely views over fields and the garden. It is carpeted, has a comfortable made up double bed, wardrobe, chest-of-drawers and a chair. Pillows, duvets, blankets and bed linen are provided, but not towels.
  • The en-suite bathroom is fitted with an over-bath electric shower unit, W.C., washbasin, shaver socket, heated towel rails and small wall unit.

Facilities and services:

  • Iron, hair drier, constant hot water, fan, electricity, central heating, firewood and coal for the open fire and barbecue, and delicious spring water from our own underground source is included in the price. There are no hidden extras.
  • There is ample off-road parking and use of the sunny sheltered courtyard and deck, as well as the garden with its stunning views over the Tamar River valley to Bodmin Moor in Cornwall.
  • There is also a field and a small wood.
  • Garden furniture and barbecue are available.
  • As only two guests visit at any one time you are assured of peace and quiet.
  • The utility room with washing machine and tumble drier can be used.
  • An unbiased guide to restaurants, pubs and other attractions in the area is also provided.

The Surroundings

  • Blanchdown Wood adjoining The Brimbles has several nature trails for those wishing to walk locally. It is the home of numerous species of birds including jays, woodpeckers, nightjars, owls and other raptors, as well as red and roe deer, foxes, badgers and many other animals and insects including the rare Heath Fritillary butterfly.
  • The Brimbles is well located for those wishing to explore the Tamar valley, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the beaches of the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall.
  • Activities in the vicinity include golf, walking, riding, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing, sailing, surfing, gliding, fly and coarse fishing, bird watching and 'tree surfing' in an aerial rope trekking centre through the trees.
  • The Eden Project and seven National Trust properties are within an hours drive away.
  • Tavistock (5 miles), voted the Best British Market Town (2004) and the Best Food Town in the South West, has an extensive range of shops, eating houses, pubs, antique and art galleries, a covered market, tennis courts, swimming pool, and many other facilities.
