Ampleforth and around - Nestled neatly beside Sutton Bank, Ampleforth is a village full of character. Its fantastic position offers easy access to stately homes (e.g. Castle Howard), museums, abbeys, castles, golf, steam railways as well as the fine cities of York, Harrogate, Ripon and Leeds.
- From the door of Brackensyke begin many walks taking into account the stunning scenery and huge selection of wildlife in the area.
- There are two pubs/restaurants, the White Horse and the White Swan, a fish and chip shop and a village shop open 7 days a week. Several fantastic restaurants can also be found in close proximity and surrounding villages.
- Ampleforth is home to a large Catholic monastery and college, which plays a substantial part in local life. The college also has a sports centre that is open to the public. With squash courts, indoor heated swimming pool, and an indoor sports hall, the St Alban Centre (01439 766740), has a lot to offer the local community.
- What is most noticeable about this picturesque and very pleasant place is the pride people have for their home village. Even those who have moved away seem to return often, and everywhere you look there are immaculately kept properties. One thing is for certain. Those who have lived in Ampleforth are usually reluctant to leave, and eager to return.
