Alt Ardoch is a warm and comfortable island retreat in an elevated position offering spectacular coastal and mountain scenery. This traditional Arran cottage has a lovely setting, with an abundance of flowers and shrubs and the garden seating is placed to take full advantage of the views. A backdrop of pine forests offers numerous trails for walking and cycling and paths link to the main villages of the island.

The nearby village of Lamlash provides safe anchorage for visiting yachts and the pier is a hub of activity. For a unique experience, take a small ferry over to the Holy Isle and you will discover a friendly Buddhist community, where animals roam freely, including Saanen goats and Eriskay ponies. Lamlash Bay also offers sea kayaking and powerboat trips, so you can explore the bay at your own pace. Local wildlife includes seals, often seen basking on rocks just offshore, otters, porpoises and a variety of sea birds.

A couple of miles south of the cottage, you will find the village of Whiting Bay with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a useful range of small independent shops. Local amenities include Arran Art gallery with a pretty courtyard garden, a golf course, pitch & putt and community activities throughout the season. A family-friendly forestry trail leads to the spectacular Glenashdale Falls and the prehistoric Giant's Graves. For refreshments, Felicity's at Bar Eden and The Shore both offer a vibrant spot for morning coffee and a tasty bite.

Places to visit nearby include:  Brodick Castle, Gardens and Country Park; The Holy Isle; Lochranza Castle, a 16th century watch tower; Machrie Standing Stones; the Isle of Arran Whisky Distillery, and Arran Art Gallery.

Things to do:  Sea kayaking, climbing, gorge walking, powerboat trips, mountain biking; high level mountain walks, forestry and coastal trails; pony trekking; seven golf courses and an automated golf range; and 4* indoor leisure facilities.
