The Isle of Skye or the Misty Isle as it is sometimes called offers the visiting tourist all sorts of attractions and places to see and visit. The Cuillins on Skye are one of the most famous mountain ranges in the world and on a clear day, the views of them are truly awe inspiring. The small towns of Portree and Broadford are the main population areas on the Island and both have a good selection of cafes, restaurants and shops to explore. There are a wide range of small craft businesses on the island manufacturing such goods as clothing, jewellery and pottery, and these are all worth a visit. Another place worthy of a mention is the Talisker Whisky distillery based at Carbost, here you can arrange a tour around the distillery and learn all about the making and history of Scotlands water of life.
For food lovers the famous Three Chimneys restaurant on the shores of Loch Dunvegan at Colbost is a real treat, owned by Shirley Spear and her wine expert husband Eddie for the last 24 years, it has won a host of awards and accolades. The accomplished Head Chef Michael Smith now runs the kitchen, and a visit is well worth a visit to sample the best of the Island's produce and seafood. Also worthy of a mention is the restaurant located at the Ullinish Country Lodge Hotel at Struan.
For those visitors interested in the historical side of Scotland, Dunvegan Castle, home of the Clan Macleod for the last 800 years, and Armadale Castle are both worth a visit. The area caters well for those that enjoy trips afloat, and there are various operators around the island that offer trips to whale watch, or to simply enjoy the birdlife and sea life that is available.
